WHO WE ARE:

Connections for Special Parents, CSP, is a support group for families of children with special needs.  Some families are just beginning the journey in raising a child with special needs; others have adult children and years of experience to share.  Our families deal with complex issues:  medical, developmental, social, educational, financial, emotional, spiritual…just to name a few.  By coming together and giving of ourselves, we’ve found that we gain so much.  We gain the strength, determination, knowledge, and courage to be better parents and better people.

We are a Family Network designed to:

Support, Educate, and Advocate.

OUR MISSION:

CSP exists to:

  • Provide you with a network of friends who understand what it is like to have a child with special needs
  • Share information and tips about successful parenting
  • Give your child a chance to experience greater inclusion at school and in his/her own community
  • Connect you with  resources you need to help your child meet his or her full potential
  • Help you learn the skills you need to become a more effective advocate for your child

HOW WE CAME TO BE:

Connections for Special Parents grew from an idea in the mind of a caring professional.  Jean Davison, Occupational Therapist, had worked with children for many years, often in their homes.  She came to realize that most families she encountered had a common need:  fellowship and support from others with similar circumstances.  Over time, Jean realized that she was in a position to be the connecting element for these families.  She began looking for support, and in 2004, with the help of Royston Baptist Church, CSP was born.

Royston Baptist Church continues to be a great friend to CSP, providing ongoing volunteers and fellowship, ongoing funding for special events, and ongoing care for the families that form CSP.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING

Members themselves offer encouragement to each other and hope as common hurdles are realized.  Here is what some members have to say about Connections For Special Parents:

“CSP is a place where support and information are phenomenal and concern and love are abundant.”

“CSP has been a blessing to our family.  We have rallied support and encouragement that would not have been possible otherwise.  Our knowledge base has increased which enables us to secure necessary services that enhance our son’s functional independence.”

“I never knew there were so many families out there like mine.  CSP brought us together to make some great friends.”
